Decolonize This Book Club

  • Downtown Bend Library (map)

Looking for a local book club that isn't exclusively about White writers and White stories? The Decolonize This Book Club might be the place for you.

Embrace Bend’s Decolonize This Book Club gathers with the purpose of listening to the voices and stories of BIPOC (Black and Indigenous People of Color), 2SLGBTQIA+ folks, disabled folks, Jews, Muslims, Palestinians, as well as migrants and refugees by purchasing, reading, and discussing their writing.

Our very first meeting will be on Sunday, January 26 from 3-5pm. We will be discussing Ibram X. Kendi's "How to be an Antiracist."

If you are interested in learning more about the club, in seeing the full reading list, and in signing up, we ask that you go to our website at www.embracebend.com/decolonize-this-book-club . There, you will find all the information you need to decide if this book club is something you would like to get involved in. Please know that we are intentionally keeping the number of members between 10-15 people. This number reflects the number of folks we feel comfortable facilitating at this time and we believe this number will better enable us to build trust as a small group and, ideally, cultivate friendships! For these reasons, we are looking for folks who are genuinely excited to be involved and who are dedicated to attending and participating meaningfully in meetings. If this sounds like something for you, then we would love to have you!
